From Colac to the coast is dotted with many fine examples of Karacsay Constructions craftsmanship. Founder, George Karacsay first learnt his craft in Austria & initially began operation in Geelong & then Carlisle River in 1956. A company was created in 1977 between George, his wife Irene & his two sons, Carl & Ernest.This family business is now well known throughout the Western District of Victoria for producing highly individual & creative pieces of blackwood kitchens and furniture using time-honoured techniques. Much of the blackwood used is harvested locally & hand picked for each piece. The quality of the woods used, particularly local Blackwood, coupled with the skill of the craftsmen, produces furniture that is totally unique as well as functional & enduring.

Skills You Might Learn
You will gain knowledge and skills in carpentry such as 'building, crafting, setting, mixing, developing and planning'. This knowledge will open up a world of opportunity in different areas of building and carpentry with the possibility of apprenticeships in the future.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students on this placement will be working inside the carpentry area of the business. You will be going out on job sites working alongside the talented carpenter craftsmen.
You will have the opportunity to learn about materials and tools within the trade and safely use them within the work. Out on the work site you could be digging holes, handling materials and assisting the carpenters.
Students will need to contact Ernest at Karacsay Constructions (through the LLEN) to organise a meet and greet/interview.
Students will need to have a positive attitude, be on time and most importantly be willing and able to follow instructions. OH&S and keeping all staff safe is the companies main focus.
Students will need to have safety boots, rain coat, hat, sunglasses, long pants, and long sleeved shirt.
Students will need to bring their lunch each day.
Special Transport Requirements
Students must find their own way to the factory- then student will be taken out onto the various job sites.
