This is a wonderful opportunity with Horsham's only specialist Bike Store - Horsham Cyclery. If you love working with your hands, assembling, servicing and repairing bikes this is the opportunity for you. Horsham Cyclery is a one stop shop for bicycle sales, service and repairs and carry a large range of parts and accessories for bike enthusiasts. Owner, Damien, has extensive knowledge and provides expert advice to customers and staff.
This SWL placement will be one day per week during Semester 2 and dates and times will be negotiated at the interview stage. This position is suitable for a student who enjoys working with their hands and has a positive attitude.


Skills You Might Learn

This placement will provide students with valuable 'hands-on experience' and the opportunity to learn from experienced bike technicians.
Students will have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on SWL placement. These skills may include valuable general employability skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving, planning and technology.
Students may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their studies including:
- Working in real-life scenarios and environments
- Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business
- Liaising and working with colleagues, supervisors, customers/clients and suppliers
- Occupational health and safety practices

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will have the opportunity to observe and assist technicians in the workshop. Typical tasks and duties include assembly of bikes, servicing, repairs and general workshop duties, as required. Students will also learn to work safely in a workshop and follow policy and procedures. Students undertaking this placement may also learn aspects of stock management and point of sale procedures.
