This placement will provide students with valuable 'hands-on experience' and the opportunity to learn from experienced industry professionals.

Students will have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on SWL placement. These skills include valuable general employability skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving, planning and technology.

Students may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their studies including:
• Working in real-life scenarios and environments
• Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business
• Liaising and working with colleagues, supervisors, customers/clients and suppliers
• Occupational health and safety practices.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Typical tasks may include assisting qualified Wimmera Aquatrail staff who work in the retail store selling pumps, irrigation fittings, tanks, poly-pipe and tools.
Wimmera Aquatrail also operate an outdoor Plant Nursery which sells trees, plants, pots, fertiliser and sprays for home gardeners. Bulk sand and soil is also sold at the site.
Some off-site work may also be undertaken which may involve assisting staff who install irrigation systems in home gardens.

Student Requirements

Students will:
• Have a passion for the agricultural/gardening/irrigation industry and be committed to the task,
• Have a neat appearance and wear clothes appropriate to the workplace.
• Be willing to learn
• Be punctual (on time) for work
• Have a good work ethic
• Take pride in their work and have attention to detail
• Have a good work attitude and show initiative
• Have good time management skills

Dress Requirements

Closed toe, nonslip shoes.
Steel capped safety boots.
Workwear appropriate for the workplace.
Neat casual attire
Minimal jewellery and long hair tied back for safety purposes.

Special Transport Requirements

No specific transport arrangements available. Students must organise their own transport, to and from the workplace.
