Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Mechanical Technology Trades Assistant – Farm Machinery, you would be assisting in the servicing and repair of farm machinery including tractors, sprayers, slashers, mulchers, nut equipment, construction machinery, utility vehicles and mowers.

Task and duties may include but not be limited to the following;
• Work effectively with others in the workplace.
• Follow safe working practices in the workplace.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment in the workplace.
• Communicate effectively in the workplace.
• Respond to customer needs and enquiries in the workplace.
• Carry out servicing operations on farm machinery.
• Develop and carry out diagnostic test strategies.
• Inspect, service and repair electronic management, monitoring and tracking systems.
• Inspect, test and service batteries.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Mechanical Technology Trades Assistant – Farm Machinery with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VETDSS subject.

Whilst students are attending a placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Only use your personal mobile device on breaks.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Complete the safety induction modules.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Participate in business activities as required.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through school or if completing a VET subject.
• Take their Logbook to their work placement every day and fill it in each day.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Steel capped boots.
• Work pants.
• Hi vis shirt.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
