If you have an interest in working in mining or mineral extraction, this placement is ideal for you. Students selected for work experience or SWL at Mandalay resources will get to see inside an mine site and learn the processes for extracting gold.

Skills You Might Learn

Communication skills and skills involved with processing instructions, practical skills in repairs and maintenance and safe work practice skills or knowledge will be attained.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Tasks will include observation of the running of the mine site. You will be involved in maintenance and repairs of mining equipment and administration of the site. Duties will vary but students need to be willing to perform some less glamorous manual tasks. Mandalay Resources will not be offering additional apprenticeships at this site in 2023.

Student Requirements

Students must be aged 16 years old. They need to have an interest in this industry. They will need to adhere closely to instructions given in relation to OHS. They will need to be willing to do a range of tasks primarily involving maintenance of machinery. They may need to work during school holidays prior to being offered work experience or SWL in school hours. This will be discussed on applying.

Dress Requirements

Students will need robust footwear/workboots. Steel capped boots will be discussed at the initial interview and may be supplied by the employer in instances where students do not have their own. Hi-vis vests will be supplied. Long sleeves and long pants are essential.

Special Transport Requirements

Students must be able to arrange their own transport to the mine site in Costerfield.
