Skills You Might Learn
Understanding all aspects of automotive body repair process and use of equipment. Problem solving to determine work methods in accordance with standard automotive practices, use and operation of automotive body repair equipment.
Typical Tasks & Duties
• You will assist the supervisor and site and learn the process of typical tasks and duties of panel beating such as:
• Repair body panels, frame or body components.
• Reassemble and fit body, engine and transmission components.
• Check, fit, gaps and functions and rectify any misalignments.
• Inspect paint work for damage and report.
• Install and test wiring and electrical components.
• Final check work against job card.
• Dismantle and assemble.
• Repair (tap up and plenishing).
• Filler, metal finish and pin pulling.
• Read and interpret job sheets.
• Push to repair and plastic.
• Set up and use of a MIG and spot welder.
• Set up of chains and pulling equipment.
• Heat shrinking.
• Repair and realign using car-o-liner jig or measuring system.
• Use of slide hammer equipment.
• Dry sanding and applying of body filler.
• Removing and replacing back panels.
Student Requirements
• Must have a keen interest in learning the panel beating trade.
• Cooperate and get on well with others working cohesively within a dynamic team.
• You will be expected to have a good work attitude - being respectful of supervisor, team and equipment.
• Arrive at work on time and always call (before your standard start time) if you are running late or unavailable to attend work due to illness.
• Take responsibility and pride in your own work, delivering the highest standards at all times.
• Must be able to work in a busy environment.
Dress Requirements
Safety footwear and workwear required.
