Typical Tasks & Duties


Students at Brimbank City Council Libraries support daily operations by assisting patrons with inquiries, shelving books, and maintaining library spaces. They may help organize and promote library events, such as storytime sessions or workshops. Duties also include cataloging new materials, ensuring shelves are tidy and organized, and handling basic administrative tasks like checking in/out materials. Students engage in customer service by providing assistance at circulation desks and helping visitors locate resources. They contribute to fostering a welcoming environment conducive to learning and community engagement. Through these responsibilities, students gain practical experience in library operations and customer service skills.

Student Requirements

Students are required to have prepared a resume and cover letter outlining why they would like to work at the library.
If the student would like to undertake an unpaid placement (i.e – Year 11, VCAL) they are welcome to speak to a senior staff member in branch and apply online via the website below however the $10 per day payment is not available for these types of placements. These are unpaid.
