If you enjoy books, IT, being organised and helping others, a placement at the Wellington Shire Library Network might be the one for you! The Wellington Shire operates an expansive and diverse range of library services located in Sale, Yarram, Maffra, Stratford, Rosedale and Heyfield. The libraries offer e-resources, children’s programs, and Outreach, as well as a wide range of community interest programs such as family history.
Skills You Might Learn
You will learn and practice many interpersonal skills while on placement such as; communication – listening and speaking with customers, showing initiative and problem solving, managing your time and learning specialised skills in technology and other equipment required for your work. You will also learn and enhance skills in liaising with other staff and working in a team on ways to improve services.
Typical Tasks & Duties
During your placement at a library, you will assist with using the lending services, looking after equipment, preparing for events and activities, and maintaining library record systems. You will be a part of a well-established team of library staff and will be encouraged to share your ideas on possible improvements and developments to library services.
Student Requirements
Applicants for this placement must have a strong desire to work in customer service. An aptitude for and interest in research and learning would be desirable. Students studying business systems or similar would also be encouraged to apply. You must be punctual, reliable and have a willingness to learn. Mobile phones must not be used during your placement.
Dress Requirements
Students are to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the workplace.
Special Transport Requirements
You are required to provide your own transport to and from the library.
