Situated in North West Victoria, Mildura Rural City covers almost ten per cent of the State. The region’s landscape includes unique Mallee vegetation, broad acre grain properties, intensive horticultural farms and vibrant towns. The beautiful Murray River winds its way through much of the municipality and is a focal point for visitors and about 53,000 people who call the region home. Mildura Rural City acknowledges that it is situated on and incorporates the traditional lands of the Latji Latji and Barkindji people, who have been custodians of this land for thousands of years. Work Placement Location: Mildura Arts Centre, 199 Cureton Avenue Mildura.
Mildura Arts Centre is the leading arts and culture hub of North West Victoria. We have a regional art gallery, performing arts theatre, Rio Vista Historic House, sculpture park and a cafe bar in one location.
Operated and managed by Mildura Rural City Council, Mildura Arts Centre is the creative hub of the Sunraysia region. Located just a stone’s throw from the banks of the Murray River, Mildura Arts Centre is home to a 444 seat performing arts theatre, art gallery, Rio Vista Historic House, sculpture park and licensed cafe. MAC also runs a range of ongoing cultural programs for everybody.
A great Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity (SWL Opportunity) with Mildura Arts Centre for a student currently studying a VET subject related to the event management field with an interest in Event Services. Typical Tasks & Duties
Student to focus on understanding of event management services offered at Mildura Arts Centre. The structure of running to a schedule, responsibility to ensure professional housekeeping, providing the facility to the agreed arrangement, provide equipment as organised, ensure equipment is secured properly, displayed and stored where necessary for each event. Undertake duties as required by the supervisor and provide professional customer service wherever necessary.
Tasks and duties may include but are not limited to;
• Work effectively with others in an events services environment.
• Organise personal work requirements.
• Handle equipment and displays.
• Follow point-of-sale procedures.
• Source and use information on the events industry.
• Participate in safe work practices.
• Provide service to customers.
• Show social and cultural sensitivity
• Provide event production support.
• Design and produce business documents.
• Use business software applications.
• Create electronic presentations.
• Produce computer-aided drawings.
• Administer event registrations.
• Use a computerised booking system.
• Plan in-house events.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Event Services who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subject relating to Events Services.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the arts and culture, be sociable with good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
Dress Requirements
The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic at all times.
• Neat professional business attire is required.
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed work shoes.
• Please do not wear clothing which others may find offensive.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
