Overview of the Environmental Service Department
• Building & Planning Administration
Admin to building, planning and permits operations, high quality communication and support to our new homebuilders, assist with planning & building permits and liaising with local and state authorities, responding to client and external agency, liaising with internal stakeholders in a professional and efficient

• Building Surveying/Health
Responsible for assessing Development Applications, Construction Certificate, Complying Development Certificate and Building Certificate applications and assisting in carrying out periodic inspections on buildings under construction to ensure compliance with the Building Code of Australia, relevant Australian Standards and the relevant conditions of development consent. They will also be responsible for investigating and resolving complaints related to unauthorised building work, and assisting in fire safety compliance.

• Town Planning
The assessment of development against legislation to ensure appropriate legal, social and environmental outcomes. Also involves strategic planning to achieve long term outcomes for the local government area.

Assessments across Urban & Regional Planning (Retail, Commercial & Residential Sectors)
Sit in on internal DA panel meeting
Observe planner work during the day
Attend a site inspection
Look at relevant acts and legislation pertaining to development assessment
Typing of basic notification correspondence

Student Requirements

White Card – if going onto a construction site
Attention to detail
Good listening skills
Perhaps interested in social studies subjects
Perhaps to have taken/taking legal studies subject

Out in the field (safety gear)

Councils Commuter Vehicle
Own transport to and from Mathoura required
