A great opportunity exists with MACU Kitchens for a student as a Cabinet Maker Trades Assistant to gain work placement experience and skills with a Quality Cabinet Maker.
MACU Kitchens specialise in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, home offices, entertainment units, commercial and many other projects. Our showroom carries a variety of ideas and design models from mid-range to premium products and is equipped with the most up to date machinery and equipment.
Students with a positive attitude towards Cabinet Making with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a placement to develop skills in the Building and Construction Industry. This is an opportunity to gain industry experience with a well respected industry leader in the cabinet making industry.
The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Building and Construction or VET Furnishing as part of their study program.

Typical Tasks & Duties
The role of a Cabinet Maker Trades Assistant is to work with and assist experienced tradespeople to construct quality kitchens, laundries, robes and vanities.
The student may undertake the following tasks and duties;
- Plan and organise work.
- Conduct workplace communication.
- Carry out measurements and calculations.
- Read and interpret plans and specifications.
- Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry.
- Handle construction materials.
- Use construction tools, equipment and machinery in cabinet making.
- basic setting out
- observation of and assistance to qualified cabinet makers
- customer service
- maintain a clean work place.
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Building and Construction Industry who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VDSS subject relating to Building and Construction and Furnishing.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Cabinet Making and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
Carry a Victorian Construction Induction Card (White Card), please note: obtaining the White Card is required prior to attending the work placement.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants or work shorts.
• Hi visual shirt, long sleeve.
• Steel capped work boots.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
KMART Mildura is a supplier of appropriate worksite clothing.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
