The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Retail or VET Horticulture as part of their study program.
This placement will provide the necessary skills for students to collect/receive and store stock, set up and store equipment and tools as well as gain valuable understanding of products including plant types, garden supplies, ornament and garden construction materials to assist landscape gardeners with construction and planting work.

Skills You Might Learn
Customer service and landscaping, gardening and construction skills in a retail environment. Problem solving. Stock rotation and management of landscaping, gardening and construction materials. Working as part of a team and working independently under supervision. Industry health and safety. Increased product knowledge, communication and measurements and calculations.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Assist on the shop floor in the landscaping and gardening department, replenishing landscaping, gardening and construction stock and displays. Working in the landscaping and gardening department would introduce students to qualified trades people, landscaping, gardening and construction products and the different materials used within the horticulture industry. Working in the landscaping and gardening department would introduce students to different types and sizes of plant and landscaping construction products.
Student Requirements
Desire to work and gain experience with customer service in the retail horticulture industry. Students attending this placement must be able to pay attention to detail, interact well with customers and provide a high level of service, display good communication skills and have a strong work ethic.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants or work shorts.
• Work boots.
Bunnings Mildura will provide a Bunnings Shirt and/or Jumper.
Bunnings Mildura will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
