This is a great Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity (SWL Opportunity) to gain experience in the Creative Arts and Culture Industry – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant with a community radio station, Hot FM Mildura. Students will gain experience in a busy community radio setting.

Hot FM Mildura Community Radio Hot FM is well established in Sunraysia with a loyal listening audience and a loyal sponsor base. Hot FM maintains a focus on country music during the day with multicultural programs and varied genre programs filling many of the evening time slots.

The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Music or VET Screen and Media as part of their study program.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will spend time under the direct supervision of qualified and experienced staff assisting with general radio production tasks and duties.

Tasks and duties may include assisting with producing content for radio programs, program preparation and research including software to edit audio samples, learning the operations of the studio, office tasks and reception duties as directed, cleaning, assisting the radio presenter on live shows if willing and confident to try.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Creative Arts and Culture Industry – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subjects relating to Music or Screen and Media.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Creative Arts and Culture Industry – Broadcast Technology as a Broadcast Media and Communication Assistant and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present at work in suitable work attire as follows;
• Neat casual dress is required.
• Closed footwear must be worn.
• Please do not wear clothing which others may find offensive.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by Hot FM Mildura.

Special Transport Requirements

Public transport is limited. Students are advised to make their own transport arrangement.
