### EVENTS SERVICES Work placement opportunity at Barooga 'Sporties'
This is a unique placement opportunity for a student to work alongside experienced staff and gain a vast range of skills in event management, hospitality and tourism. Sporties host a number of events regularly, including themed nights, music events, sporting events. They also host conferences and weddings.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of the hospitality, event management and tourism industries. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills in customer service, organising, planning for and co-ordinating events, marketing, team work and food handling and associated services.
The student may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on work placement. These may include valuable employability skills such as;
• Communication.
• Teamwork.
• Punctuality.
• Presentation.
• Hygiene.
• Problem solving.
• Planning.
• Initiative.
• Follow instructions.
• Work under supervision.
• Industry specific OH&S.
The student may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their secondary school studies they include:
• Hands-on practical experience.
• Observing and learning from industry qualified and experienced professionals.
• Working in real-life scenarios.
• Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation.
• Liaising and working with supervisors, colleagues, industry personnel, customers/clients and suppliers.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Student tasks and duties would vary depending on the functions and events that are taking place at Barooga 'Sporties' at the time of placement. Tasks and duties may include:
- event management and coordination
- hospitality including meeting and greeting and hosting clients
- assisting with food preparation and services
- preparation of events and executing clean up
- exposure to the marketing activities of the business.

Student Requirements

Students should display an interest in tourism, hospitality and event management.

Dress Requirements

Students MUST wear safety shoes (leather covered in shoes). Students must wear long pants. Pants should be black. No jewellery or piercings to be worn (please remove prior to commencement of shift). Long hair must be tied back. Students may be expected to wear a polo shirt (supplied by Barooga 'Sporties') and follow any other applicable employer instructions.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited to Barooga. Students to check bus transport availability and/or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
