A great Structured Workplace Learning placement (SWL Opportunity) exists as a Joiner/Cabinet Maker Trades Assistant with Aspect Kitchens. The student will currently study a VET subject in Building and Construction or Furnishing and at placement gain skills with a quality Cabinet Maker in the Mildura area.
Students with a positive attitude towards Joinery/Cabinet Making with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider the SWL Opportunity to develop skills learned from their VET subject in either Building and Construction or Furnishing. The SWL Opportunity is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying VET Building and Construction or Furnishing.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Tasks and duties for the student as a Joiner/Cabinet Maker Trades Assistant will vary depending on the current job, and also on each student's areas of skill and interest. The student will work with qualified trades assisting with the following tasks and duties.
Tasks and duties may include:
- follow OH&S requirements at the workplace or work site
- handle construction material safely for the cabinet making industry
- basic setting out
- understanding workplace documents and plans
- use cabinet making tools and equipment
- recognition and safe handling of selected tools
- using calculations for the construction industry
- observation of qualified cabinet makers
- customer service
- team work
Student Requirements
Students with a positive attitude towards Building and Construction and Furnishing Industries who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subjects relating to Building and Construction and Furnishing.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Building and Construction and Furnishing Industries and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.
Student Responsibility to;
Carry a Victorian Construction Induction Card (White Card), please note: obtaining the White Card is required prior to attending the work placement.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants or work shorts.
• Hi visual shirt, long sleeve.
• Steel capped work boots.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
