Bundoora Park Farm
Bundoora Park Farm is located in the largest park in the Northern suburbs, only 15 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. The Farm offers a variety of activities for both young and old where visitors can meet friendly farm animals, take a ride to see the kangaroos and emus or explore early 20th Century Australian life at the Heritage Village.
Not only is Bundoora Park Farm a great place for a visit, it is a resource for the whole community. It offers educational programs for groups and schools, volunteering opportunities for all abilities and recreational facilities. Bundoora Park Farm is also home to a number of community organisations.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will attain practical hands on experience which will include such as farm animal husbandry and maintenance; animal education; horticulture; working with people and children; teamwork and communication.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Some of the tasks and duties will include:
- assisting farm staff with animal husbandry tasks including animal feeding
-maintenance of enclosures
- providing animal enrichment
- assisting with animal handling
-feeding sessions with the general public and some horticultural tasks
Students must have an interest in working with animals and in the outdoors, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, initiative. Students must read all attached documentation thoroughly and submit Bundoora Farm Parks application form. Please ask your teacher for these documents.
Long pants, closed toed shoes are compulsory. Must adhere to the City of Darebin’s Sun Smart policy and wear hats and sunscreen when necessary. No singlets are to be worn. A vest will be provided during your placement for identification purposes.
