In this placement students will have the chance of hands-on practical experience in the domestic plumbing field. As well they will be observing and learning from a qualified and experienced professional. Students will be operating out on job sites. Barry is a long time supporter of the SWL program and this is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic student to find out about plumbing. Skills You Might Learn
The use of basic plumbing hand tools and equipment will be learnt. As well students will learn workplace communication in real life scenarios. They will also assist with site tidying and the maintenance of tools and equipment.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Tasks will be around assisting the plumber and the student will be expected to be an active participant in all workplace practices. They will work as a team member while under regular supervision. Specifically, using hand tools and digging equipment will be a big part of a student's working day, which could also involve roofing, gas fitting and general plumbing. Experience with sewage, hot and cold water supply plus storm water will also, potentially, be part of the job.
Student Requirements
The students must have completed the OH&S module in WRS VCAL or else have begun the OH&S module in the relevant VET course.
Dress Requirements
Students are to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the work place plus sturdy work boots.
Special Transport Requirements
Students may need to organise their own transport to work. The business is based in Lake Boga so may suit students from that location better.
