Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working in the Retail Industry - Retail Trade Assistant.

Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire, follow instructions, complete work with an attention to detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work place.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Mildura Bunnings Warehouse staff assisting with general tasks and duties relating to retail sales.

The tasks and duties of this placement will provide the necessary skills for students to collect/receive and store stock, set up and store equipment and tools and provide assistance at point of sale as well as gain valuable understanding of all general trade products including outdoor and BBQ settings, flooring, pool supplies, blinds and awnings, hand and power tools and equipment as well as general maintenance and home improvement supplies to assist all customer types. The student may also assist to prepare for daily activities, participating in activities as instructed, safely manual handle materials and equipment at the work area, clean and maintain the work area as instructed and apply OH&S requirements for the Retail Industry - Retail Trade Assistant.

Student Requirements

Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Retail Industry - Retail Trade Assistant.
• Be neat in appearance, maintain a high level of personal hygiene, willing to observe, listen and learn while working in our team.
• Undertake Mildura Bunnings induction process

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Work pants
• Work boots

Bunnings Mildura will provide a Bunnings Shirt and/or Jumper.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
