A great opportunity has been offered in the Aged Care Industry as an Aged Care Assistant (Individual Support) at Princes Court Homes, a leading Aged Care provider in the region.

Princes Court Homes has continued to develop its facility and care provision for residents and today we are home to 98 permanent and two respite residents who reside here and who are supported by more than 100 staff.

The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 student or a VCE student.

Typical Tasks & Duties

As an Aged Care Assistant, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Princes Court Homes staff and Allied Health Professionals to assist them in their duties in relation to the lifestyle or activities program. The student will be required to be an active participant in all workplace practices while being closely supervised by staff.

Individual support refers to assistance provided to people helping them with daily tasks and activities of daily living. This support is often personalised to meet the specific needs of the individual, and may include help with personal care, mobility, meal preparation, and social interaction.

The student will observe and may undertake the following tasks and duties;
• Participate in workplace health and safety.
• Communicate and work in health or community services.
• Apply basic principles and practices of infection control.
• Respond effectively to behaviours of concern.
• Assist with movement.
• Recognise healthy body systems.
• Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately.
• Engage with health professionals and the health care system.
• Transport individuals.
• Work with diverse people
• Work within a community development framework.
• Other tasks and duties relevant to the work placement as instructed.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Aged Care Industry who are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop skills learned from their secondary school subjects relating to Individual Support and Allied Health Assistance.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Students must be interested in the Aged Care Industry and possess good communication skills.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Logbook to the work placement every day.

Students are to discuss pre placement and onboarding requirements on contact with the Workplacement Coordinator.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic at all times.
• Neat professional attire is required, long black pants and shirt.
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed work shoes.
• Long hair must be tied back, nails must be kept short and clean.
• Please do not wear clothing which others may find offensive.
• No Jewellery

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
