Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working in the Retail Industry - Retail Sales Assistant.

Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire, follow instructions, complete work with a attention to detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work place.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced staff assisting with general tasks and duties relating to retail sales.

The tasks and duties will provide Retail skills for students to assist in a large sporting retail outlet. Tasks may include customer service, observing register (point-of-sale) operation and procedures, replenishment of products, merchandise and pricing as well as some warehouse operations work to receive stock in storeroom and prepare stock for placement in store. You would be responsible for ensuring the retail store and warehouse is kept orderly and clean, and that goods are secured, properly displayed and stored.

The student may assist to prepare for daily activities, participating in activities as instructed, safely manual handle and use materials and equipment at the work area, clean and maintain the work area and apply OH&S requirements for the Retail Industry -

Student Requirements

Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Retail Industry - Retail Sales Assistant.
• Be neat in appearance, maintain a high level of personal hygiene, willing to observe, listen and learn while working in our team.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented and groomed, the student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Neat, casual sporting attire.
• Appropriate sport shoes, full enclosed.
• Shirt will be provided by Host Employer.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
