A great opportunity has been offered in the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry as a Sport and Recreation Administration Assistant with the Mildura Basketball Association.

The Mildura Basketball Association has six mainstream clubs that compete at Senior and Junior levels. Local basketball competitions are well represented and played all year round in Mildura. Summer is the Association’s main competition while winter has a focus on social basketball that in recent times has also become popular. The Mildura Basketball Association is represented by the Mildura Heat at Senior and Junior levels. The Heat Senior teams participate in the state-wide Big V competitions.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working in the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry.

Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire, follow instructions, complete work with a good eye for detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work site.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of the Administration Officer in charge assisting with general sport, fitness and recreation administration tasks and duties.

Tasks and duties may include customer contact which is usually the first ‘point of call’. This may require general feedback to an inquiry regarding the facility and the services provided. The student may complete basic administration duties as well as assist with sport and recreation activities as instructed. Other tasks and duties may include safely manual handle, apply OH&S requirements for the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry and clean and maintain the work area and venue.

Student Requirements

Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Industry.
• Be willing to observe, listen and learn while working in our team.

COVID-19 Requirements: COVID-19 policy and procedures will be required to be followed, this may include when coming onsite to commence a shift and during the work shift to manage risk of COVID-19.

As a result of COVID-19;
Arrangements are in place to support participation in the workplace safely. The student will therefore need to comply with any additional or altered workplace rules and requirements governing safety as part of the Structured Workplace Learning Arrangement.

If the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination directions apply to the placement, the employer or operator of the workplace must ask for the student to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status, including evidence that they are exempt from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine if the student is claiming an exemption. If the student does not provide satisfactory evidence as set out above, the student may be prevented from undertaking a placement by the employer.

The student will not attend the workplace if the student is unwell or has been advised that they are required to quarantine.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented and groomed.
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed sport shoes as work shoes.
• Casual neat sport dress.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
