An open web truss design manufactured from Australian-made RHS or UB rafter offers quality and strength for a secure and safe shed construction. Typical Tasks & Duties
Students are permitted to learn how to use plant or equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
Students may assist or observe trained staff with the following activities:
- Assisting Action Steel trained staff with related manufacturing and engineering activities.
- Engaging with customers related to manufacturing and engineering activities as advised by Action Steel trained staff.
- Completing all related cleaning and maintenance tasks as assigned by assisting Action Steel trained staff.
Student Requirements
Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their Industry and Enterprise subject and/or their VET course in Building and Construction or Manufacturing and Engineering.
The following requirements must be met;
- Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements and have completed OHS modules as part of their VET course or school subject.
- Students are required to have a keen interest in building and construction.
- Students should only undertake this SWL placement if they are motivated and willing to actively participate in tasks and duties that will enhance their employability skills.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team.
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in the area of Building and Construction and/or Manufacturing and Engineering.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course or school subject.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record and/or take course assessment tasks to the work placement every day.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Please discuss with the employer at the preplacement interview. Protective, industrial Clothing including safety boots will be required.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
