Skills You Might Learn

Use of various hand tools in the fabrication of caravan cabinetry. Building cabinetry, measuring, cutting and assembling of cabinets. In addition to industry specific skills related to your VET course you will also have the opportunity to develop work related skills, ie, problem solving, time management and team work.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The students will routinely observe how caravans are fitted out or specially modified. Any practical work will be directed by the supervisor and may involve installing and assembling detailed joinery alongside knowledgeable team members. The student will have the opportunity to:

• use basic hand tools for the production and implementation of caravan cabinetry
• examine drawings, work orders and sample parts to determine specifications
• select and work with materials such as timber, veneers and particle board
• mark out, cut and shape wood
• work from drawings and specifications to make furniture
• make fittings for caravans
• assemble parts to form sections of furniture and completed articles
• fit hinges, locks, catches, drawers and shelves.

Student Requirements

Bob is looking for a student with a keen interest in cabinetry. You need to be reliable, able to take instruction whilst also using initiative.

Dress Requirements

Long pants and steel cupped boots.
