Laurimar Township Child Care and Kindergarten
An SWL opportunity is available for students interested in working with children within a kindergarten setting. Laurimar Township Child Care and Kindergarten is in the heart of the Doreen Shopping Precinct. The centre provides child care from 6 weeks and offers a full day kindergarten program for 3 and 4 year olds with qualified teachers. The centre loves to take the children out and about within the community. They offer a Bush Kinder Program, local post office walks and for our older children offer coordinate orientation sessions with the Local Primary School.
We provide a seasonal, Nutrition Australia approved menu, and a range of incursions including music and fitness programs.
Skills You Might Learn
Communication skills, assisting children to play in a supportive environment. Students will learn how to support children in a nurturing and inclusive manner. Student will also gain employability skills including how to take direction, working as part of a small team and dressing in an appropriate manner for a childcare environment. Typical Tasks & Duties
Duties related to an Early Childhood education environment, including setting up play areas, interacting with children and setting up and supporting children with art and craft activities. Assisting lunchtime and snack time routines, supporting children in creative play activities and cleaning duties, there will also be packing up duties. Follow policies and procedures for allergy management. Follow polices in regards of sun safety for children. Be aware of how to deal with problem behaviours. Maintain a hygienic workplace, modelling the washing of hands after play and before eating. Assisting staff with transitions (children arriving and departing with parents). Assisting with sleep time for younger children.
Student Requirements
Students must have a keen interest to work within the industry and a willingness to learn. Students must be willing to follow instructions and work within a team.
Dress Requirements
Dress requirements during placements are neat, tidy, suitable and safe for the particular work environment. Discreet jewellery, long hair tied back, closed toe shoes, dress suited to working with children. No skin exposed - sun smart environment.
Special Transport Requirements
Public transport is available, trains and buses.
