A great opportunity has been offered in the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Industry as an Assistant Tradesperson – Outdoor Power Equipment and Retail at Sunraysia Mower Centre.

This placement is in a modern and spacious Husqvarna Dealership. The workplace contains a fully equipped workshop and a well-stocked show room area. The focus is on the sale and servicing of a wide range of Husqvarna small motor power products such as lawn mowers, chain saws, trimmers, brush cutters, pressure washers, blowers, hedge trimmers, edgers and pole saws both petrol and battery powered. Students will be exposed to a good range of learning experiences.

Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working in the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Industry.

Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire, follow instructions, complete work with a good eye for detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work site.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Outdoor Power Equipment Tradespeople and Retail Trade Assistants, assisting with general tasks and duties.

Tasks and duties may include assisting to safely manual handle materials, basic hand tools and equipment, help prepare for mechanical work, safely use basic hand tools, apply OH&S requirements for the automotive industry and clean and maintain the workshop.

The student will assist in retail with tasks and duties that may include putting new stock together to be displayed on the showroom floor, customer service, stock control, answering phones, parts interpretation, ordering parts, workshop and showroom cleaning.

Student Requirements

Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Automotive Retail, Service and Repair Industry.
• Be willing to observe, listen and learn while working in our team.

COVID-19 Requirements: COVID-19 policy and procedures will be required to be followed, this may include when coming onsite to commence a shift and during the work shift to manage risk of COVID-19.

As a result of COVID-19;
Arrangements are in place to support participation in the workplace safely. The student will therefore need to comply with any additional or altered workplace rules and requirements governing safety as part of the Structured Workplace Learning Arrangement.

If the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination directions apply to the placement, the employer or operator of the workplace must ask for the student to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status, including evidence that they are exempt from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine if the student is claiming an exemption. If the student does not provide satisfactory evidence as set out above, the student may be prevented from undertaking a placement by the employer.

The student will not attend the workplace if the student is unwell or has been advised that they are required to quarantine.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants.
• Work shirt.
• Work boots.
• Work clothes must be neat and appropriate for the workplace.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to arrange own transport to and from work.
