Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will be part of a hard working team in the Diner's front of house service area- take away and fast food service counter. The student will be responsible for greeting guests as they arrive, taking orders at the service counter, food service as per service processes, replenishment of stock areas and prepare and serve espresso coffee. The student will also complete general cleaning duties of service counter, dining tables and all services areas before, during and after service. The student will complete kitchen duties including food handling and dishwashing as instructed.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Hospitality: Food and Beverage Attendant, with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, have basic mathematical skills in counting and money handling, have a consistent and good work ethic, willing to listen and follow instructions are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subject in Hospitality: Operations. Please note: to take part in this placement, students are required to leave their phone in an area with their belongings and only use their phone or electronic devices when they are on meal breaks (out of work hours).

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in the relevant VET course.
- Student must be interested in Front of House Operations in the Hospitality industry.
- Student must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
- Dress appropriately.
- Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
- Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
- Be punctual.
- Follow management instructions.
- Have good communication skills.
- Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements.
- Work within a team environment and share tasks and duties.
- Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
- Respect other people’s belongings.
- Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record or course assessment tasks to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

Students are required to wear enclosed, non slip shoes. Hair neatly tied back. Other dress requirements discussed with the student before commencement of the placement. No mobile phones are required on work placement.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form. If transport is presenting a problem please contact CGLLEN to discuss available options and support that can be provided.
