Typical Tasks & Duties
Students are to undertake duties on site and potentially off-site under supervision of an experienced qualified builder. Students may experience, under supervision, assisting on construction procedures, overseeing daily procedures, shadowing carpenter/laborer/joiner, helping with inventory of site tools and equipment, following instructions and working as part of a team.
Student Requirements
Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET/VCE/VCAL subject in Building and Construction.
The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to obtain their Construction White Card and declare this to the employer before they start placement.
- Students are required to have a keen interest in building and construction.
- Students must be able to spend extended periods on their feet.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work with a team, this includes notifying the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absences.
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in the area of building and construction.
Dress Requirements
Please discuss with the employer at the preplacement interview. Protective, industrial Clothing including safety boots will be required.
Special Transport Requirements
Students are to organise their own transport.
