Skills You Might Learn
Industry specific skills may include measurement and calculations, storing and handling assorted materials, using a variety of tools and equipment to meet specific task requirements. Transferrable skills include communication, time management, following instruction, using technology, problem solving, demonstrating initiative, etc.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Successful applicants will start off with the basics, gaining a solid understanding of Workplace Health and Safety, Risk Management, Equipment Maintenance, etc. As their skills and competencies develop, they will be given the opportunity to participate in more complex tasks, with greater responsibility. These tasks will vary depending on the workplace activities at the time.
Student Requirements
Students have to complete a CI Card (White Card) prior to attending placement. Be interested in Carpentry and willing to follow management instructions. Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements. Work within the team. Listen and take advice from fellow workers. Participate in business activities as required. Respect other people’s belongings. Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference. Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course. Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
Dress Requirements
Work boots, long pants and long sleeved tops of sturdy material, suitable for a construction site. High Vis gear and other PPE will be provided by employer if required.

Special Transport Requirements
Public transport is limited. Students are advised to make their own transport arrangement.
