SWL opportunity to gain experience in light and heavy automotive repairs
The state-of-the-art Service Centre has the capacity to service all makes and models of cars, trucks and heavy machinery. The highly trained technicians are equipped with the latest technology and equipment. The Parts Department stocks a wide variety of automotive, truck and machinery spare parts for commercial and retail customers from brands such as ACDelco, GM Trade Parts, Daimler and Alliance Truck Parts. The team are dedicated to providing customers with the best of care & service at all times.
Skills You Might Learn
This placement will provide students with valuable 'hands-on experience' and the opportunity to learn from experienced industry professionals.
Students will have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on SWL placement. These skills include valuable general employability skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving, planning and technology.
Students may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their studies including:
- Working in real-life scenarios and environments
- Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business
- Liaising and working with colleagues, supervisors, customers/clients and suppliers
- Occupational health and safety practices.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Typical tasks and duties will include, but are not limited, to observing and assisting qualified technicians in light and heavy vehicle repairs in the workshop. Students will assist with diagnostics and learn the skills required to be a light and/or heavy diesel technician. Students will also learn to work safely in a workshop and follow policy and procedures.
Students undertaking a Parts Interpretation or Detailing SWL experience will observe and assist employees in undertaking related duties performed in that specialist field.
Student Requirements
Students will have a passion for the automotive industry, be committed to the task, have good time management skills and be keen to learn.
Neat appearance. Wear clothes appropriate to the workplace.

Students are expected to have a good work attitude and show initiative.
Dress Requirements
Safety boots and durable work wear required.
Workwear appropriate for the workplace.
Minimal jewellery and long hair tied back for safety purposes.
Special Transport Requirements
No specific transport arrangements available. Students must organise their own transport, to and from the workplace.
