This Structured Workplace Learning Opportunity (SWL Opportunity) at Oasis Aged Care is ideal for a student currently studying a VET subject in Community Services or Allied Health Assistance to gain skills and experience as an Aged Care Assistant at Oasis Aged Care Mildura by providing personal care and nursing assistance required to elderly residents.
Oasis Aged Care is a leading Aged Care facility in our region. The facility offers an abundance of activities, fulltime supervision, meals supplied, private rooms, communal facilities and qualified staff.
The SWL Opportunity as an Aged Care Assistant is ideally suited to a VCE-VM, VPC or VCE student studying a VET subject in Community Services or Allied Health Assistance to gain skills and experience in Individual Support at Oasis Aged Care.

Typical Tasks & Duties
As an Aged Care Assistant, the student will work with qualified and experienced Oasis Aged Care staff and Allied Health Professionals to assist them in their duties including lifestyle or activities programs. The student will be required to be an active participant in all workplace practices while being closely supervised by staff.
Individual support refers to assistance provided to people helping them with daily tasks and activities of daily living. This support is often personalised to meet the specific needs of the individual, and may include help with personal care, mobility, meal preparation, and social interaction.
The student may undertake the following tasks and duties;
• Participate in workplace health and safety.
• Communicate and work in health or community services.
• Apply basic principles and practices of infection control.
• Respond effectively to behaviours of concern.
• Assist with movement.
• Recognise healthy body systems.
• Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately.
• Engage with health professionals and the health care system.
• Transport individuals.
• Work with diverse people
• Work within a community development framework.
• Other tasks and duties relevant to the work placement as instructed.
Student Requirements
Students with a genuine interest in the Aged Care Industry and engaging with the elderly with a positive friendly caring disposition are encouraged to apply. Students with a positive attitude towards Aged Care with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET subject in Community Services or Allied Health Assistance.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Student must be interested in the Aged Care Industry.
• Student must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Have good communication skills.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Students will require to provide a vaccination history and may need to be up to date with COVID and Flu vaccination requirements of the organisation.
• Students will be required to obtain a National Police Check.
• Students must be professional and maintain confidentiality
• Students must adhere to privacy legislation.
Dress Requirements
The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic at all times.
• Neat professional attire is required, long black pants and shirt.
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed work shoes.
• Long hair must be tied back, nails must be kept short and clean.
• Please do not wear clothing which others may find offensive.
• Limited Jewellery, discuss with supervisor.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
