Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Logistics: Warehouse Assistant you would assist in the tasks and duties to load and unload trucks, sort and place merchandise on shelves. You would also be responsible for ensuring the warehouse is kept orderly and clean, and that goods are secured properly. Assisting with on-site deliveries are a requirement. Retail tasks in the main showroom will also be included in this placement.

The student may undertake the following tasks and duties;
• Apply Occupational Health and Safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace.
• Follow work health and safety procedures.
• Package goods.
• Pick and process orders.
• Receive goods.
• Identify products and store to specifications.
• Despatch stock.
• Participate in stocktakes.
• Apply quality procedures.
• Use communications systems.
• Process workplace documentation.
• Apply accident-emergency procedures.
• Load and unload goods/cargo.
• Use info-technology devices in the workplace.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards the Logistics Industry and in particular as a Warehouse Assistant with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VETDSS subject in Logistics or Retail Studies.

Whilst the students is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.
• Construction Induction Card (CI Card) is preferred but not a requirement for this SWL Placement.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Work boots with steel caps.
• Work pants or shorts.
• High visual shirt, long sleeves.
• No inappropriate slogans or ripped clothing.
• Students must be interested in Logistics: Warehousing.
• Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check public transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
