Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain an understanding of and develop the basic skills related to working at an Optometry facility in the Health Services Industry.
Students will learn to work in a team, communicate effectively in the workplace, be punctual at all times, present at work in appropriate work attire and hygienically, follow instructions, complete work with a good eye for detail and adhere to OH&S requirements at the work site.
Typical Tasks & Duties
The student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Optometry staff assisting with general tasks and duties relating to the occupation in the Health Services Industry.
As an Optometry Support Assistant, you would directly assist the qualified Optometrists as instructed. This may include assisting to participate in workplace health and safety, organise and complete daily work activities, participate in Optometry care and provide business administration support including filing documentation and provide a service to customers.
Student Requirements
Whilst the student is attending the work experience placement they are expected to:
• Show a genuine interest in the Health Services Industry – Optometry.
• Be willing to observe, listen and learn while working in a team environment.
Dress Requirements
The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed work shoes.
• Neat professional work pants and shirt.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.
Special Transport Requirements
Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
