• Liaising and working with supervisors, colleagues, industry personnel, customers/clients and suppliers.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will undertake duties as a Distillery Trades Assistant as part of a professional and dedicated team in the day to day operation of the distillery including distillery, laboratory and warehouse. The student will complete basic distillery, laboratory and warehousing duties as instructed, working under supervision.

To be successful as a Distillery Trades Assistant you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:
• You are customer-service driven and seek the best possible outcomes for your colleagues and customers.
• Have strong personal energy, excellent attitude to work and self-motivation.
• You have sound communication, literacy and numeracy skills.
• You have sound intermediate computer skills and can follow touch screen directions.
• You have the ability to follow instructions, procedures and safe work practices.

Distillery, Laboratory and Warehousing duties would include but are not limited to:
Distillery and Laboratory:
• Collection and blending of samples.
• Chemical, microbiological and quality analysis.
• Record and present data.
• Use laboratory application software.
• Maintain and control stocks.
• Clean and sanitise equipment.
• Follow safe work practices in storage and laboratory.

Warehouse and Packaging:
• Package goods.
• Pick and process orders.
• Receive goods.
• Identify products and store to specifications.
• Despatch stock.
• Participate in stocktakes.
• Apply quality procedures.
• Use communications systems.
• Process workplace documentation.
• Load and unload goods/cargo.
• Use info-technology devices in the workplace.
• Follow safe work practices in storage and laboratory.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Distillery Trades Assistant with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VCAL Study Program and/or VETDSS subject in Agriculture, Horticulture or Laboratory Skills.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present in the following work attire;
• Hi visual work shirt.
• Full length work pants.
• Work boots.
• Professionally presented at all times.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
