This organisation is a sports-based social and mentoring platform. It aims to engage young people through fitness and recreation in an effort to eliminate the negative stigma surrounding mental health within our community. Students will have the opportunity to accompany the team to deliver school and community-based sports activities on a flexible basis - as per the organisation's own delivery model. This placement will ideally suit a student with an interest in sports, fitness, personal training or community development.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain a variety of skills that will be transferable to other jobs within the sports and recreation industry. These include skills in different teaching and training approaches, learning to work in a range of environments, working with different behaviours and personalities within a group, and if required; teaching people of different abilities and building on your own self-confidence and presentation skills.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will assist facilitators in setting up and delivering outdoor activities to a range of participants, from Grade 3 all the way to young adults. Students will work alongside the facilitator to help participants get the most from the sessions, which aim to be engaging and positive.
Student Requirements
Students applying for this position must have a keen interest to work in the sports and recreation industry or be undertaking a Certificate in Sports and Recreation or Community Services. It is essential that the student has a keen interest in fitness and improving the mental health of others. A positive attitude, being social and a love of the outdoors is a must for this placement.
Dress Requirements
Casual clothing or active wear and sneakers are suitable for this placement. Dressing for the weather is important as all activities will be outdoors.
Special Transport Requirements
Student to make own transport arrangement.
