Typical Tasks & Duties

A Mechanical Fitter fabricates, installs and repairs heavy machinery. Working to a set of precise specifications, they operate tools and machines to grind, mill and shape raw materials into a specified product. Students will learn about fabricating and machining in a busy logistics environment. The student will also have an opportunity to learn workplace communication, safe work practices and how to cooperative effectively as part of a skilled local team.

Students with an interest in Engineering/Mechanical Fitter are ideal for this opportunity. Those with a mechanical aptitude for fixing things, good manual dexterity and an ability to performing mathematical calculations will get the most from this experience. The student will be willing to learn new skills and take pride in tasks undertaken. The employer values good communication skills, teamwork, punctuality and initiative.

Dress Requirements

Trade clothes, a hi vis op and safety boots are required in the workshop. During summer a hat is recommended.

Special Transport Requirements

Students will require own transport. Public transport may be available to location.
