Allied Health Assistants will work under the direct supervision of health care professionals (such physiotherapists or exercise phycologist/qualified professionals) to provide therapeutic and program-related support in a variety of assistant roles in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, podiatry, clinical exercise classes and massage therapy. Tasks can include welcoming clients, cleaning, and general assistance to the Ararat Physio & Co team.
This is an ideal placement for a student studying a VET course in Community Services, Allied Health or Allied Health Administration to gain skills within an Allied Health industry.

Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will be responsible for the following tasks;
- Assisting trained staff with all related clean up, set up and packing away activities as instructed.
- Completing related client service tasks as assigned by trained staff. This may include greeting clients, answering telephone calls and taking bookings under direct supervision of a trained staff member.
- Engaging with personnel, community members, clients, specialised service staff and external health services representatives as instructed by trained staff.
Student Requirements
Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course in Community Services, Health and/or Allied Health.
The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) module in the relevant VET course.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures. This includes not discussing any workplace practices, client information or appointment consultations with anyone outside of the workplace.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must notify the workplace supervisor and the careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absences. This includes making a time to discuss extending the placement period if assessment requires a certain number of hours or days to be completed.
- Students are to complete any applicable relevant course work and/or Workplace Learning Record entries as outlined in the SWL Arrangement.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
- Privacy and Confidentiality policy clauses prevent personal mobile phones usage while interacting with staff, volunteers or clientele.
- Students must be completing a related subject or have displayed an interest in Community and/or Allied Health services.
Dress Requirements
Please discuss with the workplace supervisor at the preplacement interview. Students undertaking placement will be required to wear neat casual clothing as appropriate for an Allied Health Service- comfortable clothing and closed in toe and heel shoes.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
