This opportunity will be based at the Ararat Fitness Centre and provide a wide range of experience in setting activities and maintaining quality customer service to customers of the outdoor Olympic swimming pool, the Ararat Fitness Centre pool and swim school and the gymnasium, gym and group fitness classes, squash courts and the basketball and futsal stadium. Students may also be involved in event set up and workplace procedures of the Alexandra Oval Community Centre Precinct, Lake Bolac Peter O'Rorke Memorial swimming pool and the Willaura Outdoor Memorial swimming pool. Typical Tasks & Duties

Students are permitted to learn how to use plant or equipment only if they are explicitly required in the performance criteria or assessment requirements of a unit of competency the student is undertaking as part of a VET qualification.
During placement, students may undertake the following:
- All aspects of customer service, observing and taking part in sports and fitness classes dependent on level of competency.
- Assist Swim Teachers in the set up and closing procedures.
- Greet people and converse in a friendly, customer service manner.
- General cleaning and set up and pack away tasks.
- Prepare equipment and products.
- Prepare for events and fitness classes.
- Learn to answer phone and book appointments.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course in Sports and Recreation/Outdoor Recreation/Creative Arts and Culture/Information Technology/Fitness/Events or Community Services and Health.
Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
- Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) requirements and have completed OH&S modules as part of their course or school subject.
- Students must be interested in a vocation that relates to the sports and recreation industry.
- Students must be willing to spend periods of time observing and to undertake necessary tasks as requested.
- Dress appropriately and wear Personal Protective Equipment as part of certain work tasks and duties.
- Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
- Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
- Be punctual and notify the workplace supervisor and careers teacher of any planned or unplanned absence from placement.
- Follow management instructions carefully and competently.
- Have good communication skills and display a friendly customer service manner.
- Work as a productive team member and have skills in effective communication.
- Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
- Respect other people’s belongings.
- Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
- Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course or school subject.
- Take their Workplace Learning Record and/or take course assessment tasks to the work placement every day.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

Dress requirements will be discussed with the successful student applicant prior to commencement.

The student will be required to arrange their own transport; if transport is presenting a problem, please contact CGLLEN to discuss available options and support that can be provided. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
