Nillumbik Leisure Facilities (Aligned Leisure)
SWL Opportunities are now open with Aligned Leisure (Nillumbik Leisure Facilities). Students will work across our range of fully refurbished aquatic, sporting and leisure facilities in the Nillumbik Shire. Whether your passion is Fitness, Aquatics, Recreation or Community Services, this employer is offering work placements to cater to your area of study and interest. Students will work alongside qualified staff with the opportunity to work at different sites including gyms and aquatic centres, to develop your skills. You will have the opportunity to learn from qualified staff as they provide excellent customer service to visitors and members. Staff will work closely with students and endeavour to meet your needs and interests where possible.
Aligned Leisure has 4 sites within the Nillumbik Shire; Eltham Leisure Centre, Diamond Valley Sport and Fitness Centre, Diamond Creek Community Centre and Community Bank Stadium Diamond Creek and are offering 1 day per week placements (Wed or Thurs). A range of post school study opportunities are also available with this employer, so if you are looking to start your Sport and Recreation or Fitness career, this could be the place for you.
Skills You Might Learn
This is a brilliant opportunity for the right student to learn industry specific skills in alignment with their VET studies (Sport and Rec, Fitness, Community Services), including improved industry knowledge, equipment maintenance and care, and first aid. Transferable skills developed may include teamwork, communication, time management and problem solving, using technology and customer service.
Whilst consolidating skills aligned with your VET studies, the program will also cover the following;

Typical Tasks & Duties
While on placement you will shadow staff as they coordinate personal training sessions.
In alignment with your VET studies (Sport and Rec, Fitness, Community Services), you will observe and assist with personal training sessions, learn how to develop health plans, perform exercise demonstrations and experience a range of customer service tasks including cleaning the facility, maintaining equipment and welcoming customers, all while improving your industry knowledge.
Students may be offered the opportunity to work in Aquatics if interested, and duties may include maintaining clean facilities, shadowing lifeguard staff and participating in aquatic or fitness classes (BYO bathers).
Student Requirements
This employer is looking for mature, responsible, energetic and motivated students who are passionate about working in the Health and Fitness industry.
**Preference is given to students with a connection to the Nillumbik Shire, "Live, Work, Play Nillumbik". Students from other areas will be considered depending upon program capacity.
Students should be undertaking a relevant VET Certificate (II or III) in one of the following or similar;
• Sport and Recreation
• Fitness
• Community Services
Students are highly recommended to have their vaccinations up to date.
Students over the age of 18 will also be required to complete a Working With Children Check
Uniform will be provided, full details will be discussed at induction meeting.
Dress Requirements
Successful candidates will be provided with a basic uniform (on loan) and a badge identifying them as a student. They should wear clothes suitable for a gym environment (sneakers, shorts / leggings / tracksuit pants in black or dark blue). In the event of participation in any aquatic activity, student will need to provide their own swimwear. Full details will be discussed at initial meeting.
Special Transport Requirements
Most venues are close to public transport (bus and/or train). Selected placement sites will be considered depending on student transport arrangements.
No Travel Arrangement Form will be required as students will not be required to travel between sites on placement days. Students will be advised ahead of time of locations.
