Locally owned and operated, Fred and Bet’s Café endeavour to provide customers with a dining experience they do not wish to forget. All of the food is homemade, offering a variety of fresh snacks, breakfast and lunch options plus delicious coffee and a huge range of T2 tea, fresh juice, milkshakes, smoothies and uniquely created bubble teas.
All food and drinks can be eat in or takeaway – convenient online ordering through the SKIP app is available. Fred and Bet’s offer catering for functions big or small, supporting businesses in hosting events.
This workplace learning experience is a great chance for students with passion for customer service to learn about the roles of a chef, hospitality manager, front of house attendant, barista and waitstaff. It particularly suits someone with an interest in customer service while learning food handling skills. Students will gain experience in many aspects of the day to day operations of a busy cafe and catering business. A successful workplace learning experience at Fred and Bets can lead to ongoing employment and can open doors to a career in hospitality for those students who show enthusiasm and great team working skills. Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Students will be directly involved in customer service tasks and kitchen duties. Students will learn about stock replenishment and displays, assisting customers, food handling and assisting with food service to takeaway customers and table service.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks;
- Assisting trained staff with related food service activities as instructed.
- Engaging with customers as advised by Fred and Bet’s Cafe staff.
- Completing all kitchen hand related cleaning, set up and packing away tasks as assigned by Fred and Bet’s Cafe staff.
Student Requirements
Students are encouraged to consider a WE placement to develop skills learned from their Work-Related Skills subject. The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules- General module and any applicable industry OH&S modules.
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.
Dress Requirements
Students are required to wear enclosed, non slip shoes. Appropriate attire for a food and beverage attendant will be discussed with the successful student applicant.
Special Transport Requirements
The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
