Are you energetic and enthusiastic, then this active placement working with Primary aged children could be ideal for you. While on this placement you will work with experienced Primary School Educators who have a wealth of experience in developing educational activities & programs.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will work with children in small groups, one on one and or classroom setting. There will be a broad range of tasks and duties you will be required to undertake which will contribute to developing your skills and knowledge in childhood education and care. During your placement, you may undertake some of the following:
- Develop an understanding of children’s interests and developmental needs
- Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning
- Work effectively with families to care for the child
- Support the development of children
- Assist with activities and programs
- Read to children and listen to children reading
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment
- Work with children to create and complete school projects, classroom tasks and activities, artwork, stories, outdoor activities and so on
- Investigate procedures for allergy management
- Investigate procedures for dealing with problem behaviours
- Research policy on sun safety
- Research policies/strategies used to ensure child safety and security
- Research and identify signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses
- Observe/record children’s development and progress in the classroom
- Research strategies used to manage and maintain hygiene.
- Assist in the set up and pack up of activities, including indoors and outdoors.
Typical Tasks & Duties
Students will work with a variety of different aged Primary School children and will be supported by qualified and experienced educators. There will be a broad range of tasks and duties you will be required to undertake which will contribute to developing your skills and knowledge childhood education and care.

A range of specific industry skills and experiences may be gained through this placement. Please check with your VET trainer to confirm that this placement will meet placement requirements. Some employers have specific requirements relating to student placements. These may include sending in a resume, sighting a Police Check, gaining parental permission for the student to travel with employer or attending an OH&S induction on or before commencement of placement.

Another good idea is to look at the people at the workplace during your interview – observe what they are wearing and use this as a guide for how you should dress when you attend your placement.

Student is to arrange own transport to and from the employer. Close to public transport.
