If you are interested in sport and recreation in an aquatic arena then the YMCA provide the perfect work placement to complete the necessary requirements of your VET component. You will provide direct assistance to the aquatics instructor with small classes of children aged 5 to 12 years, learning how to engage and train young children in a pool environment. The YMCA is a friendly environment with excellent youth focused staff who are able to support you throughout your placement.
Skills You Might Learn
In addition to industry specific skills around aquatics and your VET course, you will also develop work related skills around team work, communication, problem solving and time management and educational skills.
Typical Tasks & Duties
You will work directly with the Aquatics Director, providing assistance with all their aquatic activities. This may include observing individual students to determine the level of instruction required. Selecting and using training /instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things to children. You will be working to a ratio of 1 to 10, with 50 minutes sessions.
Student Requirements
Must have a keen interest in Acquatics and a passion for sports and recreational programs, with aquatics at the forefront. YMCA wishes to emphasise that students will be in the pool and assisting the teacher where required. Students must be patient and enjoy working with children. Students must be strong swimmers.
Dress Requirements
Smart Casual. Appropriate swimming attire required.
Special Transport Requirements
Bus number 357, 358 and 569 pass close by the Centre. Alternatively Epping Train station is a 15 minute walk.
