The work placement will be at a state of the art workshop facility where you will be supervised by John Deere Factory trained service staff.

This placement is a Work Experience Opportunity (WE Opportunity) as a Farm Machinery Mechanical Technology Trades Assistant at the Mildura work site. The WE Opportunity is ideally suited to a Year 10 student or a VCE student interested in Agriculture Automotive Mechanical Technology to gain industry experience and on job skills with Haeusler’s Mildura as a Farm Machinery Mechanical Technology Trades Assistant.

Typical Tasks & Duties

As a Farm Machinery Mechanical Technology Trades Assistant, the student will observe and spend time under the direct supervision of experienced and qualified Farm Machinery Mechanical Technology Technicians assisting with general tasks and duties assisting in the servicing and repair of farming equipment such as tractors and cultivation machines.

Task and duties may include but not be limited to the following;
• Follow environmental and sustainability best practice in a Farm Machinery workplace.
• Read and respond to Farm Machinery information.
• Work effectively with others in a Farm Machinery workplace.
• Follow safe working practices in a Farm Machinery workplace.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment in a Farm Machinery workplace.
• Communicate effectively in a Farm Machinery workplace.
• Respond to customer needs and enquiries in a Farm Machinery workplace.
• Carry out servicing operations on Farm Machinery.
• Develop and carry out diagnostic test strategies.
• Inspect, service and repair electronic management, monitoring and tracking systems.
• Inspect, test and service batteries.

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Farm Machinery Mechanical Technology with a keen eye for detail and are self-motivated, willing to listen and follow instruction are encouraged to consider a future WE placement to develop their skills.

Whilst the student is attending the work placement they are expected to:
• Dress appropriately.
• Maintain interest and participate in tasks and work duties.
• Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner.
• Be punctual.
• Follow management instructions.
• Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements.
• Work within the team.
• Listen and take advice from fellow workers.
• Respect other people’s belongings.
• Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference.
• Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course.
• Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

COVID-19 Requirements: COVID-19 policy and procedures will be required to be followed, this may include when coming onsite to commence a shift and during the work shift to manage risk of COVID-19.

As a result of COVID-19;
Arrangements are in place to support participation in the workplace safely. The student will therefore need to comply with any additional or altered workplace rules and requirements governing safety as part of the Structured Workplace Learning Arrangement.

If the mandatory COVID-19 vaccination directions apply to the placement, the employer or operator of the workplace must ask for the student to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status, including evidence that they are exempt from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine if the student is claiming an exemption. If the student does not provide satisfactory evidence as set out above, the student may be prevented from undertaking a placement by the employer.

Dress Requirements

The student will be required to present at work in the following work attire;
• Work pants.
• Hi visual shirt.
• Steel capped work boots.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, will be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
