A great opportunity is available with OT Nicole and her staff to complete a structured workplace learning placement with qualified experienced staff in a Occupational Therapy and hand therapy.. Students will experience a broad range of clients and varying aspects of occupational therapy. they will get an insight to Paediatric Therapy, Standardised Assessment, Hand Therapy, School and Home.

Typical Tasks & Duties

The student will be part of a friendly professional and efficient team.

• Assist allied health professional
• Physical and social support to patient
• Administer clinical services and modalities
• Transfer patients
• Communication of patient progress/communication with other staff
• Assist with mobility and gait
• Provision of equipment
• Patient education
• Provision of health care to patients
• Supervise/conduct exercise classes
• Prepare patients for treatment
• Individual or group therapy
• Coordinate and assist in the operation of services
• Assist and coordinate health service
• Administration
• Stock ordering/requisition
• Prepare/maintain environment
• Equipment maintenance
• Health promotion
• Monitor and update health care-specific database
• Recording/statistics/database
• Housekeeping
• Cleaning

Student Requirements

Prior to the interview with the host employer, students are required to review the businesses web page and learn some background information on the organisation and what it is they do.
Prior to placement commencement students maybe required to complete SCHS online course

Whilst the students are attending a work placement they are expected to:
Dress appropriately
Maintain interest and participate in work duties
Be well mannered and behave in a respectful and responsible manner
Be punctual
Follow management instructions
Act in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements
Work within the team
Listen and take advice from fellow workers
Participate in business activities as required
Respect other people’s belongings
Keep a note pad and pen handy to take notes for their own reference
Demonstrate the skills they have developed through their course
Take their Log Book to the work placement every day.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic
• Flat, non-slip, enclosed black work shoes.
• Confirm attire with SCHS representative- department requirements.
• Long hair must be tied back, nails must be kept short and clean.

Special Transport Requirements

Public Transport is limited, students to check bus transport availability and or speak to parents/carer to organise transport prior to contacting employer.
