Located in the township of Ararat, The Barkly Bistro Bar and Accommodation caters for small and large groups, offering guest and public dining and lounge areas. The ground floor restaurant offers an excellent dining experience, hosting breakfast, lunch and dinners from Monday to Saturday and open for brunch on Sundays. Upstairs the accommodation facilities are country luxe, catering for guests who wish to explore the surrounding region and come back to comfortable rooms and enjoy fresh local cuisine. This placement will give students the opportunity to broaden their experience in a small business setting and develop skills in the hospitality industry. There may be opportunities for successful placement students to gain casual employment. Students may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on placement. These will include valuable general employability skills such as:

- Working in real-life scenarios and environments.
- Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Typical tasks and duties will depend on the workplace supervisor's requests at the time in which the student commences placement. Front of house may include, greeting and serving customers, setting up tables for service, clearing tables, taking orders, and packing away during closing procedures. Back of house may include, food preparation, serving up meals, garnish preparation, cleaning dishes and other kitchen duties.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks;
- Assisting trained staff with related food service or customer service activities as instructed.
- Engaging with customers as advised by trained staff.
- Completing all cleaning, preparation and opening and closing tasks as assigned by trained staff.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider a WE placement to develop skills learned from their school subject. The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) modules- General module and any applicable industry OH&S modules.
- Students must maintain a diary or logbook and/or complete work experience assignment and other tasks that have been set by the school.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on offsite meal breaks.

Dress Requirements

To be discussed with employer prior to commencement. All Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by the employer and must be worn in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety procedures.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Work Experience Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
