Ability Works is a workplace hiring people who have a disability or are from an underprivileged background. Their main goal is to empower people of walks of life in their jobs and help them transition to mainstream work. They are located inside the Royal Talbot rehabilitation Centre in Kew and easily accessible with public transport.

Ability Works have several departments including: manufacturing, data entry and odd jobs. This is a fantastic opportunity for students pursuing a career in Health, Disability Services or Community Services.

Skills You Might Learn

Students completing placement have the potential to gain the following skills: Understanding of Disability services, care programs, communication, teamwork, problem solving, self-management, planning and organisation skills.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Shadow disability workers and support workers, take part in supervision and support of the employees with special needs, provide companionship, offering encouragement and motivation and assisting them in overcoming daily challenges.

Student Requirements

Students should have an interest in disability services, be enthusiastic, patient, show empathy & compassion and have respect for others.

Dress Requirements

Dress requirements can be discussed at the meet and greet.
Clothing should be comfortable, adaptable to outside temperatures.
Closed-toe, non-slip shoes to be worn.

Special Transport Requirements

Accessible via Public Transport.
