An exciting opportunity exists for a Structured Workplace Learning placement at Kyabram District Health Services. Students will extend their knowledge of the health industry, gain a greater understanding of the various roles and professions within a rural facility, learn about Occupational Health and Safety protocols and apply their training in a practical setting.

Skills You Might Learn

Students may have the opportunity to attain a broad range of skills while on work placement. These may include valuable employability skills such as:
Maintain a high standard of service
Communicate and work in health or community services
Work with diverse people
Recognise healthy body systems
Assist with an allied health program
Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
Particpate in workplace health and safety
Interpret and apply medical terminology appropriately

The student may also attain vital industry specific skills which will relate to their secondary school studies including:
Hands-on practical experience
Observing and learning from industry qualified and experienced professionals
Working in real-life scenarios
Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation
Liasing and working with supervisors, colleagues, industry personnel, patients/clients and suppliers

Typical Tasks & Duties

During this placement, students will accompany and observe health professionals
Take part in lifestyle activities
Assist with an Allied Health program
Interpret medical terminology
Comply with infection control policies

Student Requirements

Students with a positive attitude towards Health who are self-motivated, have a consistent and good work ethic and are willing to listen and follow instructions are encouraged to consider a SWL placement to develop skills learned from their subjects in Allied Health. Suitable for VCE-VM students.

Dress Requirements

The student must be well presented, clean and hygienic.
Flat, non-slip, enclosed black work shoes.
Long hair must be tied back, nails must be kept clean.
Student to confirm uniform requirements with employer.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to the tasks and duties carried out by the student, may be supplied by the Host Employer.

Special Transport Requirements

Student to make own transportation arrangements
