Westside Stairs
Westside Stairs is offering SWL placements to students interested in Carpentry. The business has been operating for over 25 years and specialises in both new construction and repairs/restorations of staircases. They work on occupied and fully operational job sites as well as plan, manage, and build multi-phase jobs.
Skills You Might Learn
Students will gain a variety of technical and soft skills which include:
-Learning new skills in stair craftsmanship and design
-Skills in using a variety of tools
-Teamwork and communication
-OHS business policies and procedures
Typical Tasks & Duties
Some of the tasks and duties that the student will undertake include:
- Assisting tradesmen in a variety of projects
-Machining
-Working with hand and power tools
-Cleaning up site areas
-Working on-site with stair installers
Student Requirements
Students must have a positive attitude and respect, and be keen to learn and develop. Students must also have good time management skills and be committed to being on time. Students should bring their hammer, nail bag and chisel, Taper measure, Ruler and ear muffs. Please advise the employer if you do not have this equipment.

-long sleeve work pants
