An opportunity exists for a student interested in undertaking workplace learning at Greenfingers Nursery in Stawell in Horticulture/Landscaping. As well as an large range of plants, garden supplies, gifts & homewares, timbers and plants, Greenfingers offer job roles and community participation for people who are seeking to broaden their workplace experiences and take on learning more about plants and gardens. - Working with tools and equipment necessary to the occupation and business.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Students will assist trained staff in performing duties, students receiving high level supervision. Students will learn about stock replenishment, warehousing and product delivery systems and displays, as well as, assisting customers to locate items.
Students will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Assisting trained staff with related Garden/landscaping tasks as instructed by trained staff.
- Engaging with customers as advised by trained staff.
- Completing all cleaning and set up and pack away tasks as assigned by trained staff.

Student Requirements

Students are encouraged to consider an SWL placement to develop skills learned from their VET course in their VET course in Community Services/Horticulture and/or Individual Support. The following requirements must be met;
- Students are required to have completed the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) in the relevant VET course.
- Students must adhere to strict Privacy and Confidentiality policy and procedures.
- Students must have a willingness to learn and be able to follow instructions carefully and competently.
- Students must be willing to communicate clearly and work as a productive team member.
- Students must display great initiative to complete tasks and follow lesson plans.
- Personal mobile phones are not required and should only be used out of work hours or on meal breaks.
- Privacy and Confidentiality policy clauses prevent personal mobile phones usage while interacting with staff and volunteers.
- Students must maintain a Workplace Learning Record and/or assignments.

Dress Requirements

Please discuss uniform requirements with the employer at the preplacement interview. Students will be expected to wear neat casual dress appropriate for the workplace, sturdy closed in toe and heal shoes are essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied by the employer for tasks involving cleaning and maintenance activities.

Special Transport Requirements

The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) is responsible for the student’s transport to and from the workplace. If it is proposed that the student may need to undertake vehicle travel with their employer and/or supervisor during the arrangement (including transporting the student to and/or from the workplace), the employer must complete the Structured Workplace Learning Travel and Accommodation Form. The student or the parent/guardian (where the student is under 18 years of age) must give their consent by also completing this form.
