Become a Christmas Elf within the Christmas 4 Kids in Care program at Backpacks for Vic Kids! This is an excellent opportunity for someone undertaking a Certificate in Active Volunteering, Supply Chain Operations or Community Services to gain hands-on volunteering experience and make a meaningful contribution to the lives of vulnerable children and young people. (This placement would be a great introduction for a student interested in an SBAT in Warehousing Operations)
Founded in Victoria in 2014, Backpacks 4 Vic Kids provide crisis packs and gift packs to vulnerable children, aged from birth to seventeen years. They aim to bring comfort, ease anxiety and to restore dignity. They deliver six programs supporting children in crisis. Working out of their Cranbourne West warehouse, staff and volunteers work together to provide backpacks where needed.

Skills You Might Learn

Skills you will learn and apply include receipt of goods, counting, inspecting and storing inventory, picking and packing of items and contributing to the maintenance of a clean and safe warehouse environment.

Typical Tasks & Duties

Working specifically within the Christmas 4 Kids in Care program you will undertake a range of tasks under the direction of a senior team member and under the supervision of the Christmas 4 Kids in Care Co-ordinator. Key tasks include inventory handling, which involves sorting incoming donated and purchased items, counting and recording received goods, labelling incoming items and placing items in designated areas. You will also pick and pack items to fulfill inventory needs and provide administration support as needed. Full training is provided.

Student Requirements

A level of physical fitness to enable working in a warehouse environment is required, including standing for extended periods, lifting and carrying goods up to 15kg, is essential. The ability to walk up and down stairs is also essential. A love of Christmas is preferable!
You will be required to be supportive, respectful and friendly, able to communicate with all staff and volunteers. As this employer is a not-for-profit community organisation payment will not be provided.

Dress Requirements

Neat casual, closed toed shoes and no tank tops.

Special Transport Requirements

Own transport or by public transport.
