Skills You Might Learn

Students will gain valuable experience in the industry which may include improved recognition and identification of different plant genus and species types, determination of different types of soil/growing media. Students will participate in OHS processes and environmentally sustainable work practices.

Typical Tasks & Duties

A week with ABP will give exposure to the varied opportunities available within the company, and the Forestry Industry as a whole. You will be allocated a mentor and experience the following elements:
• Nursery and Propogation – including seedling processes, planting, quality assurance, checks on plantations etc
• Plantation sites maintenance including checks, exposure to contractors for maintenance including spraying, negotiations with neighbouring farmers and harvesting.
• Environmental area including, revegetation and wildlife care ie Koala Spotting etc
• A day at the Port of Portland to understand the final stage of loading the product to the ships.

Student Requirements

The student must have an active interest in the Forestry Industry, which is a good compliment to anyone keen on Agriculture, Horticulture and Environmental studies.
You must be keen on the outdoors in varied weather elements and show initiative.

Dress Requirements

Fully covered workwear; steelcap and Lace up workboots. Overalls and all PPE will be provided.

Special Transport Requirements

Travel Arrangement Forms will be required.
